Alliance For a Living Ocean

Alliance for a Living Ocean was founded in 1987. Ocean Pollution triggered a need, and ALO (the short term) was born. This group got together to look at the problem of ocean pollution. The group was trying to recognize first where the ocean pollution was coming from, and then organizing activities to make an impact and bring awareness to others. Imagine bringing 40,000 people together to show solidarity and having a "Hands Across the Beach" statement. They covered the full length of the island, all 18+ miles!

Here we are more than 20 years later, and they continue to educate, become more educated and take action to make a difference. Ocean pollution is always a number one priority. Simple things like educating the public on how balloon launches can hurt marine life, to making huge impacts on clean water acts, Allied for a Living Ocean has made huge differences. They're official website can be found at LivingOcean.org. ALO is located in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island.

Their many programs help educate the public. They have stories for children through the summer, along with eco tours and beach walks. You can see their full list of activities here.
