Long Beach Island NJ

Long Beach Island NJ is often times thought of as 2 places in one...the "north and south" sides of the island, but also as thequiet and busy" sides of the island!

No matter where you stay, you'll have a great time, and nothing is ever far away. After all, the fact that it's an 18 mile island means everything is pretty darn close!

We recently stayed in Barnegat Light, and since the traffic lights are blinking through the off season, it's a much quicker trip to travel from one end to the other.

The other thing that happens is the speed limit is increased. So while we were doing 35mph and hitting traffic lights in the summer, we're doing 45 with no traffic lights in the fall.

Off season is a great time to visit the island. You get it to yourselves, and while there are people there, it's less crowded, which makes it feel empty. What an incredible feeling.

Yeah, there were still lines at ScoJo's Sunday morning, but hey, they have great food!

We went for an early dinner at Tuckers one night and beat the "small crowd".

I loved walking around Bay Village empty. It was a leisurely walk, without the lure of goodies to draw you in. We sat on the gazebo, and looked out at the bay.

Fantasy Island is open on weekends, so there's arcade fun for the kids, or heck, for the grown-ups. We like the little "pop-a-ball" poker game.

LBI Restaurants and Great Food

My husband and I just spent 9 nights down in LBI this past week. We had some great food, and 3 things were standouts I just had to tell you about!

I had probably the best brownie I've ever had from the Surf City Bake Shop. Can you say "chocolate heaven"?

At DaddyO, I had a bowl of New England Clam Chowder that was so good, I couldn't stop raving about it. It was buttery, creamy, had lots of clams, but didn't taste "clammy/fishy" if you know what I mean. Oh my gosh! We'll be getting that again in the future...

Lastly, the best meal of our trip (we ate out once each day) came from Tuckers. We always enjoy Tuckers, but their special the other night was out of this world. It was a huge porkchop served over cheddar mashed potatoes with little fried onions on top. Yes, I ate the whole thing! Delish! My husband and I both enjoyed this special, and on top of the great meal, we had great service.

While we enjoyed all of our meals and snacks this week, these are the three standouts I had to rave about.

Striped Bass Derby Oct 31-Nov 2nd

The Seashell Club will be having their 12th Derby next week. If you're interested fishing starts at 9pm on Oct 31,with weigh-ins at 12 noon sharp on Nov 2nd. There are cash prizes for the top 10 biggest fish.

Check the local bait and tackle stores for rules, along with any forms you need to fill out.

The surf fishing tournament is in progress, and according news reports, right now the top weight for Stripers is at a little over 46 pounds! WOW!!!

The bass have weighed up to 23 pounds at this point. There's still plenty of time to get out there!

A wedding on Beach Haven's sandy shore with the ocean at your side, is a romantic and beautiful occasion. What things might you want to consider when planning that beach wedding? With an outdoor event, there are a few things you'll want to take into consideration. What time will you have your ceremony, and what day? On season, you'll have crowds, off-season in May, early June, September and October the beaches will be a bit emptier.

You'll also want to consider weather. Will there be cover if it rains, or an alternate location. What about wind, how will you counter an extra blustery day?

You'll want to make sure guests are aware you're wedding will be on the beach so they can think about their shoe selection, or know they may want to take them off.
